A CLINICAL LAND STATISTICAL REVIEW OF CONGENITAL ANOMALES OF GASTROINTESTINAL TRACT(126Cases)

Abstract
A statistical study was carried out on 126 patients with congenital gastrointestinal tract anomalies with the exception of the umbilical hernia admitted to Wonju Union Christian Hospital from Jan. 1960 to March 31, 1969.
The following results were obtained.
1. 126 cases were 2. 58% of a total of 4,991 pediatric admissions.
2. Inguinal hernia was 64.3% (81 cases) which was the most common. The next was imperforated anus (15 cases, 11. 9%). Congenital hypertrophic pyloric stenosis and intestinal atresia were identical at 5 cases(4%).
3. The sex ratio male to female was 7 : 1.
4. 15 cases of imperforated anus were diagnosed within 48 hours after birth and the male to female ratio was 11 : 4. 9 cases (60%) were complicated with fistulas and one cases of recto-urethral fistula was combined with congenital heart disease (PDA, ASD, VSD and Absence of the tricuspid valve).
5. In congenital hypertrophic pyloric stenosis the male to female ratio was 4 : 1. No deaths occurred.
6. Among 5 cases of congenital intestinal atresia, 2 cases were duodenal atresia and the others were jejunal atresia, ileal atresia, and jejunoilealeal atresia. One of the duodenal atresiacases was combined with annular pancreas and congenital heart disease (Patent foramen ovale, PDA) and also mongoloid features. All cases received operation, with two fatalities.
7. 3 cases of biliary atresia included 2 extrahepaticand 1 intraphepatic atresia. One of 2 patients. who received operation died.
8. 2 cases of congenital stomach perforation were found and these perforations were due to congenital defect of muscle layer. One case was perforated , on the lesser curvature and the other on great curvature of the stomach.
9. In 81 inguinal hernias, male 79 cases, female 2 cases; combined with hydrocele 10 cases (12. 6%) and complicated with incarceration 4 cases (4. 9%).
